What I Wore: Fancy Florals

I hit up the thrift store...again. I have been looking for a really flowy floral top as of late and wouldn't you know it, the first thing I see when I walk into the thrift store is this floral gem. I don't about you, but I suffer in hot weather. Don't get me wrong, I love summer. LOVE. But there is something about 100+ degree weather that kills me. It doesn't help that I pair tights with shorts...but I'm not subjecting the innocent public to my legs.

AND OH MY WORD.

You guys, the pairing of my blue tights and red shoes looks awfully familiar...I AM SPIDERMAN.

Daily Outfit: A Furry Little Bow

Not too long ago I got an email from Cheryl, a dear friend from my Bunco group. Cheryl is a lover of all things vintage-yay! She thought she had some stuff that I might and enjoy, and boy did she ever! As part of the little bundle of treasures she gave me, the mink fur bow pictured in pic number two was included. I about died when I saw it. It is just so dainty and adds an adorable flair to any outfit. And what better way to show it off then having to say to the closing prayer in sacrament meeting today? Sure, it was absolutely terrifying, and sure, I was shaking a good 40 minutes after, but people got to appreciate the bow? Am I right, or am I right? Thank you Cheryl for the amazing vintage piece!

Daily Outfit: A Blustery Yellow Skirt

Utah isn't located near an ocean. So can someone please explain to me why we experienced hurricane-like winds all over the state today? I mean, really, 120 mph winds? I kind of wish it just would've have snowed instead, you know, to celebrate the first day of December. Now THAT would have been cool, not semi's blowing over on the freeway... 

Anyways! I (along with my sister, Emily) braved the winds to take these pics. I found this skirt at the thrift store during one of my "snow white" highs. The skirt screamed "snow white" and so I kind of sort of just had to have it. It goes with anything and everything and I absolutely love it. The sweater was purchased at a thrift store in California during one of our many trips to Disneyland. And the tights? Well, who doesn't love a pair of floral loveliness?

Treasure Tuesday!

Drum roll please. I am about to introduce to you the most incredible, keel over, amazing sweater you will ever see...

 

Can you say, HOLY SMOKES WHAT AN INCREDIBLE FIND? This little beauty was discovered late one Saturday evening at my place of employment, Planted Earth.Seriously, if you haven't stopped by the adorable little Victorian house on St. Street, now is the time to do so. I found this sweater upstairs in the clothing section, and boy did I whip it off the hanger! Penny, the store owner, (I don't know how she does it, but she KNOWS the history behind each item in her store...amazing) told me that I won't find anything like this. This sweater was made in Hong Kong with each bead carefully hand-sewn on. It's almost to amazing to wear!

DIY: Silhouettes

 1. Select a cute oval shaped frame. The oval shape creates a classic vintage look. I picked these two frames up for a dollar a piece at the local thrift store.

 2. Either stick with the style of the frames, or select a new color. Since the original colors of the frame didn't match my color scheme, I spray painted them with spray paint. I painted the frames outside to be sure that the paint didn't get anywhere it shouldn't.

3. For the actual silhouettes, I browsed the web for pictures of profiles. After finding a profile, print it out and trace it with tracing paper. Tape the piece of tracing paper to black card stock. Take a small pair of scissors and cut out the shape of the profile. After you are finished cutting, take the tracing paper off.

4. Voila! You now have a custom silhouette! I placed a vintage piece of wallpaper in the background to set off the silhouette. It's fun, simple and a adorable project to display on your wall!

 I would like to introduce my gorgeous little sister Sarah. I know I shouldn't be jealous of my little sisters...but I kind of am. My little sister Emily can play the guitar like it's nobody's business, and my little Sarah, well, she is tall, she is slim, and she looks like she just stepped out of Vogue magazine. I thought it was going to be chilly today so I made sure to bundle up. Well, about halfway through work the heater really started heating up and I was getting WARM. But, on the bright side, it was a gorgeous day outside. Mom and I ran some errands ( she asked if I wanted to go to Savers, I am still in shock), taking Emily to guitar lessons, visiting Grandma and Grandpa (no, that's not an errand, but a pleasure), watching Vampire Diaries (they can't really expect me to wait till January to see the next episode, do they?). Both the skirt and the blouse in this outfit have amazing little details which you can't see...and yes, my little sister always looks like that (haha kidding, but I love her anyways)

It's starting to get a little chilly outside. With weather like it is in Utah, it could be snowing tomorrow. To avoid the chilliness I threw on this adorable wool skirt, and cashmere sweater. Mmm...toasty! And what is an outfit without a peter pan collar shirt? I've been told to never mix stripes and polka dots...who the heck made that rule up? Yesterday my Grandma and I ventured down to the local antique mall. Last time I was there I saw these cat-eye glasses. It escapes my mind why I didn't purchase them...but when I went back they were still there! Inlaid mother of pearl AND from the late 50's...does my heart some good!

I don't know if it's just dumb luck (if it is, keep it up!) or what, but I have been coming home lately with some fabulous thrift finds. The dress was way to large in the bust area, but too cute to just give up on. Solution? Throw on an adorable cable knitted sweater over the top, cinch up with a braided belt and layer over some skinny jeans. Stylish AND warm.

Terrific Thrifts Tuesday

1. Two words. Vintage. Bambi. Made of wood!! Isn't it completely melt your heart worthy? I found it at my local thrift store, and for a buck (no pun intended), I couldn't pass it up. It now hangs adorably on my wall.

2. I'm a sucker for Peter Pan. I am also a sucker for peter pan collars. I think I might have drooled just a bit when I saw this gem on the rack at the thrift store. I'm not a huge fan of 60's wear, but c'mon, you would have bought it too. 

3.You know that feeling? When you find something that you instantly fall in love with? You know, your heart starts beating really fast and you start thinking that if you don't grab it right then and there it will be lost forever and your life will never be the same? Basically that's what happened when I found this book. That, and I might have hyperventilated a bit. I LOVE ALICE. 

4. There is nothing I love more than 1940 era dresses. Styles back then were just so classy. It's blue, it has ruffles, and the skirt actually goes past my knees. Thank you modest cuts! Can you be in love with a dress?

5.Vintage MIA shoes. Don't know what that stands for, but I know that these wedges are totally retro, totally cute, and totally match with almost any outfit.

I fell in love with this dress the moment I saw it. It's a 40's shirt dress, complete with full skirt! It's very rare that dresses fit me perfectly, this one fits like a glove! The shoes get their own post. Basically, one of my favorite thrift finds. And thank you Forever 21 for making amazing tights. Seriously, they have hundreds of styles. Amazing. The End. 

My New (Dream Job): Planted Earth

There's this little treasure right in the heart of Orem, Utah. Up until two years ago, I had no idea that such a magnificent gem existed. Once I stepped foot inside this store, my jaw dropped, my eyes grew big and I managed to mutter a small *gasp*. Before my eyes lay the greatest assortment of antique and vintage finds I had ever seen-at ridiculously insane prices! I know that as you read this you grow impatient (palms sweaty, keys at the ready) to find this gem yourself. And what store is it, may you ask? PLANTED EARTH. A boutique containing vintage and antique goods, plants and floral services. And the best part? I WORK THERE. You heard me right, I am the newest employee of Planted Earth, and I believe I have just died and gone to heaven...

Oh. My. Word. Would you look at that? Just look at that! I mean, holy smokes...it's everything I love wrapped all into one wonderful vintage heaven. As an employee of Planted Earth I am required to design flower arrangements, help to clean and price antiques, arrange displays, take flower deliveries, care for the greenhouse, paint furniture, and yes, learn to work with the resident ghost, Edna (ya..wasn't too thrilled about that particular job requirement, and no joke, she likes to mess with me). Seriously, this is my dream job, I am so blessed to work here!

I just LOVE a vintage shopping spree! Whether it's finding treasures at Saver's (I don't want to hear any laughing), or hunting at garage sales (once again, no laughing), there are always good finds to be found!        

#1- Vintage Steve Madden Oxford Heels. Nothing says adorable like oxfords or Steve Madden shoes.

#2-Vintage German Mug-When my mom went on a European tour in the 70's, she brought back this little beauty.

#3-Vintage 30's Metal Compact Clasp- I about fell out of my chair when I spotted this inlaid pearl compact at a yard sale. 

#4-Vintage Secretary's Blouse- It's purple, it has a polka-dots and to top it all off, an adorable bow surrounding the collar. I quickly snatched this treasure up at Saver's.

#5-  Vintage Little Women Book- This was also a gift from my mom. We both love, "Little Women", the book and movie are fantastic. I was so excited to add it to my ever growing collection of vintage books.
